Austro Control has selected ADB SAFEGATE’s OneControl integrated air traffic control platform, developed in Graz, to modernise all controller working positions in the Vienna Airport ATC Tower by 2028.

The advanced system, already deployed at Hamburg Airport, will enhance safety, streamline tower operations, and support more efficient, sustainable air traffic management.

Austro Control, the air navigation services provider that controls Austrian airspace, selected the platform following a highly competitive international tendering process.

Commissioning of the new system in the Vienna Airport tower is planned for the end of 2028.

“With OneControl, we are relying on state-of-the-art technology and maximum operational reliability. The system will provide our air traffic controllers with optimal support in the safe and efficient handling of air traffic,” said Philipp Piber, Managing Director of Austro Control, during the contract signing in Graz.

Traditionally, air traffic controllers work across multiple independent displays, such as flight plan tools, surveillance screens, and ground movement systems. OneControl transforms this fragmented environment by integrating all safety-critical information into a single, intuitive platform.

With all relevant data available in one integrated working position, controllers gain immediate situational awareness of aircraft and vehicle movements on the apron, airfield, and in the air, enabling faster, more accurate decision-making.

More efficient and sustainable airport operations

In addition to enhancing tower safety and operational reliability in line with international standards and EU compliance rules, OneControl supports more efficient and sustainable airport operations.

Key features include advanced conflict detection for earlier risk identification, automated and intuitive workflows to reduce controller workload, and integrated airside intelligence for improved prediction and planning.

The technology also provides data-driven decision support, enabling seamless coordination from approach to take-off.

These capabilities help airports optimise airside operations, minimise delays, and support long-term sustainability goals.

Gonzalo Moreno-Muñoz, Managing Director of ADB SAFEGATE Austria, said: “Winning this international tender highlights our leadership in innovative air traffic control software.

“We greatly value Austro Control’s continued confidence in our technology and are proud to support their next phase of ATC development with OneControl.”
