Four major transport and engineering companies are vying to deliver the automated people-mover system for the first phase of Al-Maktoum International Airport’s expansion, according to Dubai-based project intelligence outlet MEED.

France’s Alstom, China’s CRRC, and Japan’s Hitachi and Mitsubishi Corporation have each submitted bids to Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) for the project.

The system will feature multiple tracks linking terminals with concourses, designed to streamline passenger transfers at what is set to become one of the world’s largest airports.

Located south of Dubai, the 70 sq km Al-Maktoum International Airport is planned to house five parallel runways, five terminal buildings and 400 aircraft gates once complete.
