Green Cubes Technology has launched a new battery specifically designed for ground support equipment (GSE) at airports—marking a major step forward in electrifying aviation operations.

With over 35 years of battery design expertise, including a decade focused on motive power, the company’s latest GSE Li-ion battery brings enhanced efficiency, safety, and durability to the ramp.

Li-ion technology offers electrical efficiencies of up to 98%, far surpassing traditional lead-acid batteries, which average just 80%.

These improvements make Li-ion batteries particularly well-suited for the demanding, high-usage environment of airport GSE.

Green Cubes’ solution enables each piece of equipment to operate with a dedicated, long-lasting battery—reducing downtime and streamlining operations.

Robin Schneider, director of marketing at Green Cubes said: “Airlines and airports around the globe are working hard to reduce carbon emissions and improve sustainability.

“Switching to electric-powered GSE with Li-ion batteries is a simple yet effective way to achieve that.”

The new battery incorporates Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry, known for its enhanced safety profile and extended cycle life.

Joe Richards, vice president of product management added: “LFP chemistry is safer, more environmentally friendly, and provides a superior cycle life.

“We’ve tailored the design specifically for GSE applications, drawing on our extensive industry experience.”

Recognising the operational challenges of airside environments, the battery is engineered with heaters for reliable performance in extreme temperatures, while its IP54-rated battery control module (BCM) ensures durability against dust and water ingress.

Additional advanced features include:

  • Stable State of Charge Measurement: Improved tracking for consistent power management

  • Enhanced Isolation: CAN and USB communication interfaces for greater safety

  • Advanced Diagnostic Tools: Technician software and diagnostic trouble codes (DTC) for faster servicing

  • Service-Friendly Design: Easily accessible components and modular architecture for simplified maintenance

  • Reduced Spare Inventory: Use of common building blocks streamlines part management

  • Integrated Power Distribution Board: Eliminates the need for I/O harnesses and inline components

The new Li-ion battery positions Green Cubes as a driving force in the shift towards cleaner, more efficient airport operations, while offering ground crews the reliability and ease of serviceability they need.
