Heathrow Airport has selected Telent, the mission-critical technology specialist, to maintain and support its complex traffic signal network.

It marks the start of a three-year partnership focused on keeping passengers, staff and services moving safely and efficiently across the airport estate.

The contract will see Telent take responsibility for all preventative and corrective maintenance of traffic lights, pedestrian crossings and monitoring systems that play a vital role in the safe and smooth flow of vehicles and people across the site.

Reg Cook, director of asset management at Telent, said: “Heathrow is a unique environment; fast-moving, safety-critical, and always on.

“Securing this contract is a significant milestone for Telent as part of M Group, reflecting the strength of our combined expertise and our shared commitment to operational excellence.

“Our teams are built for high-stakes environments, and we’re proud to bring that capability to one of the world’s foremost transport hubs.

“This partnership is focused on preventing issues before they arise, minimising disruption, and helping Heathrow operate with greater reliability and resilience every single day.”

Enhancing safety and minimising disruption

By uniting Telent’s specialist technology expertise with M Group’s established presence at Heathrow, the partnership enhances operational alignment, simplifies governance, and supports a more efficient, value driven service model.

The work goes far beyond routine maintenance. By combining 24/7 technical support with proactive trend monitoring and a vendor-agnostic model, Telent will help Heathrow reduce downtime, enhance safety across its roadside and airside network, and minimise disruption for passengers, staff and transport partners.

Heathrow’s decision reflects growing demand for experienced, resource-rich infrastructure partners who can work seamlessly in high-pressure, live operational environments.

Backed by M Group, Telent brings a significant depth of technical expertise and a proven track record across major UK transport networks.

Sean O’Brien, operations manager of specialist systems at Heathrow, said: “Ensuring the safe and smooth movement of people and services across the airport is essential to our daily operations.

“This partnership is about maintaining the critical systems that help us do that.

“Telent’s experience and preventative approach stood out during the tender process, and we look forward to seeing the impact of their work across the estate.”

Due to go live in April 2026, initial site assessments have helped prioritise areas for investment, ensuring critical systems remain safe, reliable and fit for purpose in a 24/7 airport environment.
