The Board of InterGlobe Aviation limited (IndiGo) today announced that it has appointed Willie Walsh as the company’s Chief Executive Officer, subject to regulatory approvals.
Walsh has been the Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) since April 2021.
His tenure at IATA comes to a close on 31 July, 2026, and he is expected to join IndiGo no later than 3 August, 2026.
The aviation heavyweight was formerly CEO of British Airways and IAG (International Airlines Group, a holding company which owns Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level and Vueling).
He is known for his outspoken communication style, notably in relation to labour disputes at BA and his critique of government policy during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his new role as IndiGo’s CEO, Walsh will be responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the airline, with a focus on transformational initiatives to strengthen its operational performance, and advancing the company’s network and commercial strategy while enhancing customer experience.
