South Europe Ground Services (SOEGS) has been chosen to provide ramp and ticket assistance services for Iberia, Iberia Express, Vueling and Level at all national airports.

The new company will also deliver passenger handling for British Airways, Air Nostrum and Aer Lingus.

The handler, with 100 per cent IAG capital and a majority of Iberia, was born from the agreement reached between Iberia and its unions on 2 February to guarantee a sustainable and competitive future for the handling business and its workers.

Iberia said SOEGS will have operational autonomy and will include the employees of the current Iberia Airports Management, who will maintain the conditions of the Iberia Agreement and retain all their rights.

South Europe Ground Services will be able to serve third-party companies at the airports where Iberia Airport Services has obtained a license in the latest Aena tender.

Miguel Ángel Gimeno, currently the director of ground operations at Vueling, will take on the role of SOEGS CEO.

Iberia said Gimeno has extensive experience in airport management, having spent the last 17 years at Vueling where, in addition to being director of ground operations, he has held the positions of director of the OCC and also director of crews and onboard service.

Gimeno said: “Assuming the leadership of this new company, within the IAG group, is quite a challenge.

“I am convinced that, thanks to our team made up of the best professionals, we will write a page of success in the handling business in Spain and we will work tirelessly to grow internationally.”
