Industry veteran Mike Doane appointed MBE in Queen’s Birthday Honours

Michael – Mike – Doane has been appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) recently for his services to British airport services and international trade.

Doane’s career in aviation – particularly ground support equipment and airside operations – spans an incredible fifty years.

Half of that fifty years was spent as the sales and marketing director for Douglas Equipment, now part of Textron GSE.

Doane has also spent thirty years as a board member, including three terms as a chairman and is the current Honorary President of the British Airport Services & Equipment Association (BASEA).

Doane stated to Airside International: “I was very surprised, honoured and very humbled to be appointed a MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2018.

I was recognised for services to British Airport Services and International Trade after a career spanning 50 years (25 years as Sales & Marketing Director) at Douglas Equipment and 30 years as a board member (3 terms as Chairman) and currently Honorary President of BASEA (British Airport Services & Equipment Association).

I would therefore like to thank my wife Yvonne, my family, work colleagues past & present at Douglas Equipment (especially my long serving secretaries Pat Wright and Claire Bond), our many agents & representatives around the world and colleagues past and present at BASEA and DiT (UK’s Dept of International Trade).

Lastly, I would like to thank the Trade Press and of course all our many customers worldwide for their tremendous support throughout my career that has enabled me to be recognised for this most prestigious award”.
