JFK to outline new strategy on snow operations

John F. Kennedy airport in New York is set to outline a new, full strategy on winter operations as it learns from recent disruptive weather.

Earlier this week, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced a number of changes in its winter operations strategy after a huge snowstorm a few months ago severely disrupted flights in and out of JFK.

The changes will mainly involve restrictions and permissions placed on airlines who intend to fly to the airport. It was said that airlines will now be required to acquire permission to land at JFK before departing its origin airport.

Airlines are now also required to share equipment in the airport in the event of winter emergencies, giving added relief to stranded passengers.

Rick Cotton, Port Authority Executive Director, stated, “We are committed to strengthening JFK’s operating procedures during winter storms so that the breakdowns experienced last January never happen again.”
